Sometime in the early 1980’s a woman presented Gianni Agnelli with a husky dog. “He’s just like you: grey hair and blue eyes”, she wrote in a card.
So, here is the Drake of all Drakes, playing with his dog in the garden of his Piedmontese residence, Villa Frescot, a lovely pair of loafers by Giulio Miserocchi at his feet. Elegance and comfort perfectly blended.
After this picture appeared on Italy’s glossy magazines, huskies became the “it” dogs in the country. Everybody wanted one. Huskies were in the 1980’s what cockers were in the 1970’s, they said. As the popularity of huskies grew to unexpected heights, so did that of driving loafers, which worked just as perfectly with Mr. Agnelli’s gessato suits as with a pair of jeans and a white button-down.
Today, the sons of Giulio Miserocchi are still producing beautiful hand-made shoes out of their workshop in Domodossola, and you can purchase them online from the P. Johnson Tailors e-store (husky dog not included).
